Objectives of the course
The objectives of the course M.A. in NGO Management are to provide a value added, market driven, employment oriented & indigenously relevant course in NGO sector. The course will focus on giving necessary inputs and training in setting up of the goals and objectives of NGO activities, establishment of Non-governmental organizations, thorough understanding of the organizational framework of NGOs, devising strategies and operational pathways, supervision and planning of Human Resource, Projects, Financial, Marketing, Networking, other policies and various other programmes of the organization. Study of these main areas of the course will help a student to understand the subject and the field of activity in detail from a more realistic point of view and prepare them for a career in NGO management.
Highlights
Adopting the CBCS pattern the course (92 credit) of study the MA NGO Mgt programme shall extend over 4 semesters (Two years) and shall consist of theory courses / papers (Core, Electives) Field Practicum, Research Project, Summer placement, Block placement and Study tour. Besides the above the students will also undergo soft-skills courses to enhance their employability and employment skills.
To meet the requirements, of the NGO sector, the course is designed to provide knowledge and training to the candidates on a wide range of areas and social concerns challenging the human society at the national and international level.
Learner competencies
At the end of the course, the students will be able to groom themselves and develop necessary competencies to function as professionally trained managers to establish and run NGOs. Those who undergo this programme will be imparted with a special capacity and skills to work as managers in the emerging & specialized field of NGO management.
Eligibility for admission
Any student with a special interest and aptitude for management of organizations and people, with a Bachelor’s Degree, in any discipline, of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 pattern or any other pattern (including professional courses) that fulfills the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education from a recognized University and approved by the University of Madras will be eligible to apply for the course. Preference will be given to candidates with working experience in NGO Sector.
